Jeremiah's father, John served in the British forces during the conquest of Canada in the Seven Years War (1756-1763) in a Corps commanded by Col. Rogers, and was in several engagements at Crown Point and on the borders of Lake Champlain. During the American Revolution in 1777, at the age of 14 Jeremiah joined "His Majesties" service, serving in Delancey's Brigade. His father (John) also belonged to this company and/or Capt. William's company in the Guides and Pioneers. He was killed at New Rochelle. An older brother was killed at Cowpens, under Lord Cornwallis. Jeremiah's service included duty as midshipman on board the British Commodore's ship with Prince William (later King William IV) until 1783 when he went joined the exodus from New York to New Brunswick4 with "The Spring Fleet."5

Elizabeth also went with her parents to New Brunswick, where she married Jeremiah at the age of 20 years. Jeremiah and Elizabeth were baptised as adults by Rev. Richard S. Clarke on 5 Aug 1792 2. The couple settled on a 50 acre Crown Grant at Gagetown, NB.6 They were subsequently converted to the Methodist faith under the New Lights Mission, followers of Rev. George Whitefield.

About 1801, they went to New York on their way to Upper Canada but the family fell sick and "had to remain until deprived of all means to continue". The couple and their children, arrived at Norfolk County by 1807 3 when they joined the Methodist Church. In 1811, Anderson had 10 children 3. Anderson was assessed at Charlotteville in 1809 -- £6, 1810 – and in 1811, six days.7 In 1812, he purchased from Oliver Mabee 100 acres, the west half of Lot 17, Con 7, Charlotteville Township 8 west of Simcoe.

During the War of 1812, Anderson served in Bostwick's Flank Co., McCracken's Detachment (1812), Daniel McCall's Company (1813), and Bostwick's Company (1814).9 In Oct 1812, with Bostwick, he took a party of the enemy. In Nov 1813, he volunteered with McCall to go to Port Dover against the enemy and at other times joined McCall in their search for traitor John Dickson.4 In 1815, he was assessed at £135.

In 1817, Anderson settled at Bayham Township, Elgin County with the recommendation of Colonel Thomas Talbot. A Crown Deed dated 15 Jul 1847 was issued to Jeremiah Anderson for 100 acres in the north half of Lot 21 Con 2, Bayham Twp. On 30 Aug 1847, he sold 1 acre to James Smith.
